April 6th, 2013 AvMap A2 ADAHRS Module turns EKP V display into an EFIS!

AvMap, the Italian manufacturer of GPS since 1994, presents the A2 ADAHRSmodule (Air data, Attitude and Heading Reference System) that turns the EKP V’s 7” display into an EFIS.The A2 ADAHRS module extends the functionalities of the EKP V Aeronautical Navigator bringing attitude andairspeed to the moving map and converting it into a centralized Glass Cockpit System for both navigation andprimary flight display for experimental, ultra-light, sport aviation and general aviation market.

AvMap EFIS is composed by:

- AvMap EKP V Aeronautical Navigator, that acts as an integrated cockpit display and central processing unit

- AvMap Cockpit Docking Station, that allows the EKP V to be installed into the cockpit and providesconnectivity to external modules

- AvMap A2 ADAHRS, a compact fixed-install unit providing attitude, heading, altitude and airspeed data to thesystem (Air Data, Attitude and Heading Reference System). The small and light module is easy to fit into theaircraft as it can be installed in any orientation.

AvMap's EFIS system features:

- Airspeed and Altitude from pitot-static system
- Attitude, side slip and heading information
- Integration of TAWS into the PFD with AGL Altitude indication
- Wind indicator with wind components
- Air data sensors: range 10 to 250 kts, -1000 to 40000 ft
- Clear HSI display linked with EKP V flight planning function
- 3 axis gyros, accelerometers and magnetometers, acceleration range +/- 8 g, rotation range +/- 1600 deg/s

On January 8th 2012, Slovenian pilot Matevž Lenarčič has started his 100.000 kilometers long world flight. Flying around the world in a small aircraft makes great sense to Matevž Lenarčič. Low above the ground and feeling that the planet is rotating beneath the plane, but high enough for the Earth to reveal all its secrets – secrets which the pilot will capture in photographs. Most of the photos will be of water, or the results of its activity. Due to different physical states, quality and distribution, almost a third of the human population has limited or even no daily access to healthy sources of drinking water. Matevž is certain that with a little willingness, the right behaviour, sensitivity and solidarity, all of us on this planet could have enough water and food.

The GreenLight WorldFlight presents a series of challenges to both pilot and manufacturer. The aircraft must be able to fly in high temperatures, polar cold and at very high altitudes. In addition, fuel consumption must be very economical, as some legs of the journey are over 4,000 km and the amount of fuel on such a small aircraft is very limited. Lenarčič is trying to cover over 90,000 kilometers solo, flying over 60 countries. He will make stops on all seven continents and cross the Equator six times. His route will take him over Everest, Aconcagua, Kilimanjaro and the Atlantic, Pacific and Indian oceans.

The project - named GreenLight WorldFlight - is not just a publicity stunt. Mr Lenarcic will be taking photographs and measuring the concentration of black carbon and light-absorbing carbonaceous aerosols in previously untracked areas of Earth.
